A modder has optimized The Last of Us Part I on PC, significantly boosting performance and addressing many of its notorious issues. Sony, however, still suggests waiting for official patches.
It's hard to recall a more disastrous PC game launch in Sony's history than what happened with The Last of Us Part I. While you can technically play the game from start to finish, the actual gameplay is plagued with countless bugs, freezes, and terrible optimization. The few patches released since launch haven't significantly improved the situation. As a result, Steam's digital storefront allowed users to refund their purchase without any playtime restrictions.
However, as is often the case, gamers had to find solutions to their favorite game's problems themselves.
An enthusiast known as 'desconection' tackled optimizing The Last of Us Part I and concluded that most rendering issues and errors stem from the engine's poor DirectX 12 optimization. The modder ported the game to the Vulkan API, which not only improved performance but also resolved some texture and shader display problems.

On our end, we'd add that sooner or later – be it in a day, a week, or a month – Sony will release a proper patch for The Last of Us Part I, finally allowing PC gamers to immerse themselves in Ellie and Joel's dramatic story. Therefore, we'd recommend waiting for official fixes from the game's developers rather than settling for half-measures.
