Finnish overclocker Luumi has claimed the top spot in the Geekbench3 discipline for any 18-core processor, thanks to an Intel Core i9-10980XE chip overclocked to a blistering 5901MHz. The CPU's integrated heat spreader (IHS) was polished to a near-mirror shine—a common practice, as Intel's IHS can be quite uneven, and lapping ensures optimal contact with the cooler (though it does void the CPU warranty). A liquid nitrogen pot handled the extreme cooling.
Beyond the 18-core record, the Finnish overclocker also secured first place in the Core i9-10980XE model category for Geekbench3:
