After its move to Steam and the launch of its free-to-play version, Destiny 2 peaked at 220,000 concurrent players. Servers initially struggled with the influx, but the issues have now been resolved.
Last night, Destiny 2 officially migrated from Battle.Net to Steam. Alongside this move, Bungie also launched the game's free-to-play version, dubbed 'New Light'.
The game's servers were down for 24 hours, from 7 PM on September 30 to 7:45 PM on October 1. During this time, the development team migrated character saves from Blizzard's service to Valve's platform.
The launch wasn't without its issues, though. Bungie evidently didn't anticipate such a massive influx of new players and hadn't fully prepared their servers for the high concurrent user count. At its peak, the game hit 220,000 active players!
⤢ ВІДКРИТИFor about 10 hours, logging into the game was nearly impossible, with queues ranging from 20,000 to 40,000 users. And even those lucky enough to get past the queue often didn't have long to celebrate, as they could be kicked back to the title screen within minutes.
Fortunately, these issues have now been resolved, and everyone can jump in and enjoy the free-to-play version of Destiny 2.
