Bungie has pushed back the Steam release of Destiny 2, along with its Shadowkeep and New Light expansions, to October 1. The developers need extra time to polish the project.
Destiny 2's developers announced a delay for the game's Steam release on their blog.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИHi everyone. As the launch of Shadowkeep and New Light approaches, it's become clear we need more time to polish the project. Being an independent studio means Destiny 2's future rests entirely with our team. It also means we can make decisions that benefit players, even if that means shifting a release date. We're moving the release date of Shadowkeep and New Light from September 17 to October 1 of this year. This wasn't an easy decision. We know many of you take time off, or fake sick days, to play new content right at launch. We apologize for disrupting your plans and wanted to share this information as quickly as possible. Some helpful info for launch: the new raid will start on Saturday, October 5. That's a weekend, and we hope you'll have no trouble diving into it then. We're extending "Moments of Triumph" until September 17, giving you an extra three weeks to complete this year's challenges and unlock Bungie Rewards. We'll also be running an extra Iron Banner week after September 17. Character migration will be live by the end of this summer, so you'll have a chance to sort out your friend lists before Shadowkeep drops. More information will be available next week. Thanks for playing our game, and we'll see you soon.
Delaying a project for extra technical polish is a completely normal situation. Especially since Bungie isn't just releasing a new expansion. With the launch of Shadowkeep and New Light, Bungie is also migrating from Battle.net to Steam, bringing player saves along for the ride.
