Chinese overclocker Takukou has set a new record with the Radeon RX 6800 XT, while Italian enthusiast Cnzdrn pushed the Phenom II X4 960T BE processor to 6133 MHz.
For the past few days, the HWBot homepage has been painted AMD red, and today is no exception. Chinese overclocker Takukou took gold in the Radeon RX 6800 XT category, while Italian enthusiast cnzdrn grabbed first place in the 4-core Phenom II X4 960T BE rankings.
Let's start with the impressive run from China. Takukou didn't wait for custom partner models of AMD's new graphics cards, opting for a reference Radeon RX 6800 XT instead.
Swapping the stock air cooler for a liquid nitrogen pot, the enthusiast managed to push the GPU to an impressive 2,800 MHz. Even with LN2, that is an incredible overclock for a reference card.
Still, as we previously mentioned, custom partner cards should shake things up, and we might see AMD GPUs finally hit the highly coveted 3.0 GHz milestone.
Back to the record: Takukou got the card stable at 2,800/18,000 MHz (GPU/RAM) and cleared 3DMark Fire Strike with 48,890 points. This secured him first place in the Radeon RX 6800 XT rankings, as well as the top spot among all single-GPU systems!
Takukou's test bench featured the following components:
CPU: 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 5950X overclocked to 5,600 MHz (+64.71% over stock);
Motherboard: MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE;
RAM: 16 GB (2x8 GB) G.SKILL Trident Z Royal kit.
Now, let's look at the Italian overclocker's achievement:
For his bench, cnzdrn went with a much older, battle-tested platform and CPU. A year ago, he already set records in the Phenom II X4 960T BE category, but he clearly felt he could improve on his own results, and he was right.
Just like last time, cnzdrn used an LN2 pot and the same high-end GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD7 motherboard. This setup once again let him break the 6 GHz barrier and push the CPU to 6,133 MHz. While he reached similar clocks last year, he didn't run the HWBOT x265 Benchmark - 4k back then. This time, he successfully completed the run at 2.075 FPS, securing first place in the Phenom II X4 960T BE category and a gold medal in the 5-core rankings.
