Overclocker Perica_barii set a new i7-3930K record, pushing two cores to 5756 MHz. A motherboard issue prevented further gains, so he plans to improve on it.
Montenegrin overclocker Perica_barii has set a new record in the Intel Core i7-3930K model ranking. This six-core chip (32nm, Sandy Bridge-E) was pushed to its limits, though for this run, only two cores remained active, clocked at an impressive 5756MHz. This specific setup is due to the older SuperPi - 32M benchmark being optimized for single-threaded performance, allowing the enthusiast to isolate and test the cores with the highest overclocking potential. Perica_barii's decision to keep two cores active instead of just one is curious; perhaps it was to prevent the operating system from consuming resources and negatively impacting the final score.
One memory channel dead on MB, working with only 3. Efficiency not that good, will try to repeat with new MB...Thanks to my teammates, HWGURUS FTW !!!
A comment under the record post revealed that one of the RAM slots on the testbed's ASUS Rampage IV Extreme motherboard was dead, leaving only three active. This, Perica_barii noted, lowered the efficiency of the benchmark run. He now plans to get a different motherboard and attempt to surpass his own result.
