British overclocker ObscureParadox set a new SuperPi-32M record on an Intel Pentium E5300, achieving 9 minutes, 1 second using liquid nitrogen. He promises more records to come.
British overclocker ObscureParadox has updated the SuperPi - 32M record for the Intel Pentium E5300:
⤢ ВІДКРИТИThe overclocker achieved a result of 9 minutes, 1 second, and 265 milliseconds at a CPU frequency of 5459.8MHz. Notably, CPU-Z accurately reported the core voltage at a significant 1.952 volts. Given that motherboards often report slightly lower voltages to utilities, it's quite possible the actual voltage exceeded 2 volts.
⤢ ВІДКРИТИGenerally, such voltage isn't overly concerning for liquid nitrogen cooling, which was used for this CPU. Considering the processor's current price (around $2-3), it's clear this particular sample was binned from hundreds, perhaps even more, similar chips. It's quite possible some of them sacrificed themselves for this impressive result.
The British overclocker's test bench included the following components:
CPU – Pentium E5300
Motherboard – ASUS Rampage Extreme X48
RAM – Patriot Viper II Sector 5 2x2GB DDR2
In comments about his record, he revealed he wasted a lot of liquid nitrogen on the wrong CPU and ultimately didn't achieve everything he wanted. This implies we can expect at least a few solid results in Pi Fast and SuperPi - 1M disciplines in the future.
Spent a whole evening benching the wrong CPU, and only realized two days later........ Had about 2.5L of LN2 to do a few quick Pi Fast and SuperPi - 1M tests. Very inefficient use of consumables, so we'll be back to this CPU in the future :)
