Austrian overclocker TAGG has set two new records each for the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and E8600 processors on the legacy LGA 775 platform.
Honestly, the sheer productivity of Austrian overclocker TAGG is truly enviable. Over the past two weeks, the enthusiast has set more than 10 records on the LGA 775 platform, and it looks like this winning streak is just getting started. Today, TAGG published four more LGA 775 results, this time targeting two dual-core CPUs: the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and E8600.
Both processors and the chipset of the ASUS Rampage Extreme motherboard were cooled using a phase-change system. This allowed the overclocker to push the CPUs to between 5800 MHz and 6400 MHz, depending on the model and benchmark:
The table below provides a detailed breakdown of each record:
Benchmark: | Result: | CPU frequency: |
wPrime - 32m (E8400) | 11s 328ms | 5985 MHz |
wPrime - 1024m (E8400) | 6m 17s 766ms | 5855 MHz |
wPrime - 32m (E8600) | 10s 796ms | 6400 MHz |
wPrime - 1024m (E8600) | 5m 56s 640ms | 6200 MHz |
The enthusiast's test bench looked like this:

Motherboard: ASUS Rampage Extreme;
RAM: 2 x 2 GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator GT;
Graphics card: Zotac GeForce 9500 GT;
Power supply: 850W EVGA SuperNOVA G2;
OS: Windows XP SP3.
Judging by TAGG's comments yesterday, this bench session was the last for this particular ASUS Rampage Extreme motherboard. It died shortly after, and was replaced by a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-Extreme.
