The first results of testing video cards in the game Cyberpunk 2077

Our colleagues from the European representative office of Tom’s Hardware conducted a small test of several video cards in the hotly anticipated action game Cyberpunk 2077. It should be noted that the research was preliminary and was carried out without the much-needed patch of the first day, therefore, in the release version of the game, the results of the presented video cards may be different.

So, the video cards were RX 5600 XT, RX 6800 XT, GTX 1060, RTX 2060, RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3080 and RTX 3090. You can see the full list of components below:

Test setup:

  • Processor – Intel Core i9-9900K
  • Motherboard – MSI MEG Z390 Ace
  • RAM – Corsair 2x16GB DDR4-3600 CL16
  • SSD – XPG SX8200 Pro 2TB
  • Power supply – Seasonic Focus 850 Platinum
  • Cooling system – Corsair Hydro H150i Pro RGB
  • Case – Phanteks Enthoo Pro M

Video cards:

  • GeForce RTX 3090
  • GeForce RTX 3080
  • GeForce RTX 3060 Ti
  • GeForce RTX 2060
  • GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
  • Radeon RX 6800 XT
  • Radeon RX 5600 XT

Let’s go directly to the results obtained.

With medium graphics quality settings and 1080p resolution, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card was more productive than the top from NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090! However, when moving to 4K, the picture changes quite seriously: Now the RX 6800 XT loses out to the RTX 3080, and the lag behind the RTX 3090 turns out to be extremely significant. However, the RX 6800 XT is by no means a price competitor to the RTX 3090. This place will soon be taken by the RX 6900 XT.

At ultra settings + 4K resolution, the position of the video cards on the graph does not actually change, but their results are quite sagging. The minimum graphics card required for so many high settings is the RTX 3080.

The activation of ray tracing technology in the game Cyberpunk 2077 confronts the gamer with the necessity of activating DLSS. However, even with DLSS, ray tracing in CD Projekt RED becomes an overwhelming task for most of the video cards tested.

Recall that there are just over two days left before the release of Cyberpunk 2077.
