German overclocker Faktorx2 has set a new 3DMark Time Spy record with the Radeon RX 6900 XT, pushing it to 2900 MHz using only a custom liquid cooling system – no LN2.
Normally, pushing Navi 21 GPUs past 2700MHz demands extreme cooling solutions like liquid nitrogen, helium, or Peltier modules. However, German overclocker Faktorx2 managed to set a record in the 3DMark - Time Spy discipline using a relatively accessible custom liquid cooling system.
A full-cover water block was mounted on the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card, which was likely a reference design. This setup enabled Faktorx2 to push the GPU to 2900MHz (+58.90% over stock) and the GDDR6 video memory to 2100MHz (+5.00% over stock), ultimately completing the 3DMark - Time Spy benchmark with an impressive score of 22987.
The Intel Core i9-7980XE CPU was simultaneously overclocked to 5000MHz (+92.31% over stock) and shared the same liquid cooling system, running off the same pump as the graphics card.
The overclocker's test bench, which was essentially a complete PC, comprised the following components:
Processor: Intel Core i9 7980XE;
Motherboard: EVGA X299 Dark (151-SX-E299-KR);
RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z Royal.
