Sony: 1440p support for PlayStation 5 may be added in the future, but only if there is demand

Just a few days ago, we wrote that the new Sony PlayStation 5 console will not receive support for 1440p resolution and will only work in 1080p mode when connected to appropriate devices. This news did not particularly please the owners of the aforementioned displays, and in this regard, the Japanese company hastened to reassure its fans: In the foreseeable future, the PlayStation 5 will still be able to receive a firmware update with support for 1440p resolution, however, Sony must be sure that this function will be used in demand.

Sony's Hideaki Nishino reveals in a new (Japanese) interview that there is no PS5 1440p resolution support due to TVs being the highest priority – and he also notes that if it's requested enough, they might add it in the futurehttps://t.co/JPj4FJIdoW pic.twitter.com/mrDchTRVY5

In simple terms, if the Japanese company sees a sufficient number of panels with a resolution of 1440p connected to the PlayStation 5, then there will be support. If not, then alas, few owners of 2K displays will have to continue to play on PS5 in 1080p resolution.

Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), shared these thoughts with clients.
