It’s been a month since we last covered single-core processors records. Then I also wrote that this category was captured by Xeon processors.

The French overclocker The Silver seemed to have heard my words and for his gold in the wPrime – 1024m discipline used the AMD Sempron 140, which was quite popular at the time.

By the way, we have a review of this processor on our website. Though, it is a pity that it is 2010 and cannot boast of its relevance.

Let’s go back to the record holder.

To achieve a result of 12 minutes 58 seconds and 672 milliseconds, The Silver needed to overclock the Sempron 140 to 5967 MHz at 1.744 volts (according to CPU-z). It is worth noting that the processor has a multiplier locked for increasing and overclocking was carried out exclusively by increasing the bus frequency.

This is an extremely close result to the maximum possible overclocking at 6223MHz.

The processor was cooled with liquid nitrogen, and the record-holder test stand already consisted of the following components:

  • GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD3P motherboard, very familiar for the AMD AM3 platform
  • One 1GB DDR2 Bar Crucial Ballistix Tracer
  • Seasonic 1000 watt power supply

The video card used to conquer gold remains unknown. Most likely a low-power plug such as GT710 / HD7730 was used.
