The GPU of the ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon RX 6800 XT video card will be able to reach 2500 MHz, and the TGP of the adapter will reach 290W

Patrick Schur, a software engineer, posted on his Twitter account a little bit of new information regarding one of the upcoming AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards. According to Patrick, the GPU frequency of a non-reference engineering sample of the ASUS Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card, model ROG STRIX, will be able to reach an impressive ~ 2500MHz at TGP (consumption of the entire video card) ~ 290 watts. However, on average, the GPU frequency of the ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon RX 6800 XT will be around ~ 2298MHz.

System 1
Avg: 2291 MHz
Median: 2373 MHz
Max: 2556 MHz

System 2
Avg: 2289 MHz
Median: 2301 MHz
Max: 2394MHz

System 3
Avg: 2092 MHz
Median: 2320 MHz
Max: 2489 MHz

TGP: 289 W

Here are some results with a TGP of 255 W. Don't ask me what's the difference between 255 W and 289 W models.
Probably more OC headroom and more stable boost clocks? 🤔

System 2
Avg: 2298 MHz
Median: 2357 MHz
Max: 2509 MHz

System 3
Avg: 1993 MHz
Median: 2342 MHz
Max: 2557 MHz

These results were obtained on engineering samples of video cards, therefore, most likely, the final product can operate at slightly higher frequencies, as well as have differences in the final TGP, both for the better and for the worse (higher frequencies will increase the TGP as well).

It is worth noting that Mr. Schur mentioned as many as three test systems in his tweets, and as you can see, each of the video cards operates at different frequencies. Patrick explained this by minor problems with the current raw drivers and added that these problems will be completely eliminated by the time the RX 6000 video card appears on store shelves.

In addition, Patrick shared with the public his measurements of the ratio of GPU working time to its frequency:

Here are some more details about System 1. You can see that the clock was more than 85 % of the time ≥ 2300 MHz.

≥ 2500 MHz (10.28 %)
2400 ≤ x < 2500 MHz (24.46 %)
2300 ≤ x < 2400 MHz (50.49 %)
2200 ≤ x < 2300 MHz (3.64 %)
2100 ≤ x < 2200 MHz (1.38 %)
< 2100 MHz (9.75 %)

According to the research of the engineer, the graphics processor of the RX 6800XT card operates at a frequency above 2300MHz for more than 80% of the time. Which is not bad at all, even for an unreferenced sample.

Recall that AMD will officially unveil the family of RX 6000 series video cards on October 28. As such, the second half of 2020 will definitely be much more exciting, from the point of view of computer enthusiasts, of course.
