Through its subsidiary studio Luminous Productions, Square Enix has shared a new video called “Back Stage” Ray Tracing Tech Demo.

It shows us a techno demo demonstrating the implementation of ray tracing in Square Enix’s own Luminous Engine.

As stated in the description under the video, this techno demo works on one GeForce RTX 2080 Ti video card.

The “Back Stage” is a demo of our work, in which we answer the question, “How can we use ray tracing in next-generation games?” GeForce RTX graphics cards are powerful beyond our imaginations, and with NVIDIA technology, even real-time tracing is a reality. Together with the Luminous Engine and RTX technology, we’ve taken it one step further towards creating the beautiful and realistic game we strive to create.

Takeshi Aramaki, Head of Studio Luminous Productions

The Luminous Engine was used in Final Fantasy XV, where Square Enix partnered with NVIDIA is added effects such as VXAO, HairWorks, ShadowLibs, and Turf Effects.
