According to the information received, Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 875G chip may not appear on the market on time due to complications with Samsung’s new 5nm EUV (extreme ultraviolet) process technology.
An authoritative source claims that Samsung will begin mass production of 5nm chips in August this year, and their first SoC should be the Exynos 992 (Samsung’s personal development). The DigiTimes report also states that the tech giant currently has some problems keeping up with the required number of usable 5nm chips. As a result, it can negatively affect the provision of the market with a sufficient number of custom SoCs.
The report also mentions that the uncovered issue could have an impact on the launch of Qualcomm’s “flagship 5G series of mobile chips,” although it should be noted that DigiTimes did not reveal the exact name of the product.
It is likely that the aforementioned complications with the front of the 5nm process technology appeared due to the consequences of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, and Samsung simply had to make some adjustments to its future plans.
