So, as you probably already know, at yesterday’s “GeForce online event”, NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang personally unveiled three new GeForce RTX 3000 graphics cards based on the “Ampere” architecture: GeForce RTX 3090, RTX 3080, and RTX 3070.
But we will start with the most shocking and discouraging moment of the presentation, namely, with the positioning and performance of the most “simple” of the presented cards.
GeForce RTX 3070
Absolutely no one could have imagined that CEO Huang would present a super-cheap counterpart to the current top-end RTX 2080 Ti graphics card. However, with the words “now is the time to switch from” Pascal “graphics cards (GTX 1000 series)”, the head of the “green giant” presented the relatively affordable GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card.
This product will replace (precisely in terms of the final performance) the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti while having half the official price tag. The GeForce RTX 3070 has 8GB of up-to-date GDDR6 memory operating at an effective frequency of 16000MHz. The GPU of the newly minted card has an impressive 5888 CUDA stream processors operating at frequencies up to 1730MHz. The TDP of the GeForce RTX 3070 is around 220 watts.
The price of the GeForce RTX 3070, a conditional analogue of the RTX 2080 Ti, is set at $499, and its release is scheduled for October this year.
GeForce RTX 3080
The next card presented, according to Jensen Huang, will bring double the performance increase over the RTX 2080, and this is its direct successor – the GeForce RTX 3080.
This video adapter uses the top GPU GA102, however, which is quite obvious, with a somewhat stripped-down configuration: the RTX 3080 carries a GPU with 8704 CUDA stream processors on board, which operate at frequencies up to 1710 MHz. The GPU has 10GB of cutting-edge ultra-fast GDDR6X video memory at its disposal, operating at a crazy effective frequency of 19000MHz. But with the power supply of the RTX 3080, not everything is as good as we would like: replacing the RTX 2080 will consume up to 320 watts in the basic configuration, which is almost 100 watts more than the same RTX 2080 (225 watts).
The official price of GeForce RTX 3080 is set at $699, and its release is scheduled for September 17 this year.
GeForce RTX 3090
Well, in the end, that video card that everyone was waiting for, but which only a few will acquire: The flagship of the RTX 3000 line – GeForce RTX 3090. The characteristics of this video adapter are amazing: crazy, by the standards of gaming video cards, the amount of video memory of the GDDR6X standard in 24GB, GPU GA102 in its full configurations with 10496 CUDA stream processors that operate at a maximum frequency of 1700MHz and power consumption of 350 watts.
If you are disarmed by the characteristics of the new “green” flagship, then its price may shock you at all: they will ask for at least $ 1499 for the new product! Nevertheless, it is worth noting that at the moment, objectively, the GeForce RTX 3090 is really the ultimate solution for gaming and working with 4 and 8K content.
In addition, NVIDIA itself states that the GeForce RTX 3090 is “up to 50% faster” than the Titan RTX.
The release of the new “graphic king” is scheduled for September 24 this year.
Samsung is responsible for the production of the RTX 3000 GPU line, thanks to which the new NVIDIA GA102 and GA104 chips are built on an economical and advanced 8nm process technology. Also, each of the presented video cards supports the advanced PCI-E 4.0 interface.

According to internal tests by NVIDIA itself, in projects such as Borderlands 3, Doom Eternal, Red Dead Redemption 2, Control (RTX ON), Minecraft (RTX ON) and Wolfenstein Youngblood (RTX ON), GeForce RTX 3070 and GeForce RTX 3080 video cards demonstrate absolute dominance over its predecessors in the face of RTX 2070S and RTX 2080S, which is supported by the graph:
Unfortunately, NVIDIA did not provide detailed data on the performance of the GeForce RTX 3090.
