The German overclocker under the pseudonym Kolby_Powers refreshed the stagnant current ranks of the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 chip (45nm Yorkfield-12M core) in the SuperPi – 32M discipline with a brand new record.

Armed with dry ice, a GIGABYTE GA-EP45T-UD3R motherboard, and a dual-channel DDR3 Corsair Dominator GT RAM kit, the enthusiast overclocked the processor to an impressive 4709MHz:

It should be noted that the frequency obtained by Kolby_Powers is not very low for a quad-core LGA 775-compatible processor, because under the cover of the Core 2 Quad Q9550 there are two 45-nm crystals at once, and overclocking the CPU data is associated with a painstaking selection of successful samples and a long system tuning (frequency and timings RAM, FSB, and so on).

The result of the bench session was the result of 9 minutes, 38 seconds and 860 milliseconds:

The last thing I would like to note: tests in the SuperPi – 32M discipline are most profitable to be carried out under the Windows XP operating system, but if for some reason the hardware refuses to work with XP, try Windows 7.
