According to the research of our colleagues from TechSpot (be sure to take a look at their material), as a result of numerous tests, the fresh 8-core processor from AMD turned out to be far from being as profitable as the representatives of the “red” company said.

First, the Ryzen 7 5800X starts at $ 450, while the same 8-core, 16-thread Intel Core i7-10700K chip can be purchased for $ 380. And in fact, the $ 70 difference turns out to be quite significant, even considering that there is some difference in the price of AM4 and LGA 1200 motherboards, and not in favor of the latter platform. Nevertheless, such a wide spread in the price of processors makes the difference in the price of motherboards not so critical and noticeable.

But perhaps the Ryzen 7 5800X is significantly faster than the Core i7-10700K, and thus its price is fully justified? In software packages, yes, that’s a fact. The Ryzen 7 5800X chip actually dominates the Core i7-10700K in 100% of cases, and for professionals, the solution from AMD will obviously be the best choice. But in games, everything is not so simple. Let’s take a look at a couple of graphs:

And on the final graph of the average performance of the Ryzen 7 5800X chip in 11 games:

The Ryzen 7 5800X does show slightly more solid results than the Core i7-10700K, and in terms of specific performance per core, AMD has finally surpassed Intel’s solutions. However, from a pricing standpoint, the Ryzen 7 5800X chip is no longer attractive: Demonstrating only 5% superiority in pure performance, the AMD processor is an impressive 19% more expensive than the Core i7-10700K.

Thus, the only significant advantage of the Ryzen 7 5800X is support for the PCIe 4.0 standard (and even then, only on boards with 500 series chipsets). If you are not planning to use this, then you should probably turn your attention to the cheaper Core i7-10700K chip from Intel. Moreover, the LGA 1200 platform will accept at least one more processor generation, while the Ryzen 5000 family was the last solution for the AM4 socket.
