Unfortunately, there was very little information on Halo Infinite at E3 2019. The released trailer only showed a new character stuck in space until the main character of the entire series, the Master Chief, arrived to him.

Matt Booty, head of Xbox Studio, recently spoke on Game Informer to talk a little bit about the upcoming Halo Infinite.

I think the first thing that’s incredibly cool is where this game is heading, how the developers think about expanding the world. The word “sandbox” (an open-world game – editor’s note) should be used very carefully because it is a vague concept. But what 343 Industries is doing to build a big universe, a large set of gameplay scenarios, and just a bunch of things to keep you interested in exploring the world is amazing. What they are working on is really cool!

Secondly, they are also completing their Slipspace engine in accordance with the current requirements of game development.

You know, we could say that the design of Halo 5 was a bit tricky. Halo Infinite, on the other hand, has a more modern and cleaner feel. But it also has a strong echo from the roots of the series. And it’s really fun to watch.

I would say Halo Infinite is visually impressive and more extensive.

Matt Butty – Head of Xbox Studio

Judging by the interviews, Matt is trying to disown the term “sandbox”. But there is nothing wrong with that. For example, Destiny 2 from the same Bungie (the developers of the first three parts of Halo) is also not a full-fledged “sandbox”, but the game did not suffer much from this.

Halo Infinite is due out in late 2020 on Xbox One and PC. And Frank O’Connor assured the owners of the original Xbox One that they will not be considered second-class players and Halo Infinite will look fantastic even on the old console.
