German overclocker Eisbaer798 received two gold medals in the ranks of the once-popular dual-core Intel Core 2 Duo E8400.

With the help of liquid nitrogen, the chip was cooled to -125 degrees Celsius (the readings were taken in load, in idle the CPU temperature was -130) and overclocked to an impressive 6035 MHz for passing the old benchmark Cinebench – 2003 and up to 5934 MHz for the relatively modern Cinebench – R11.5.

Benchmarks and results:

DisciplineResultProcessor frequency
Cinebench – 20032128 points6035MHz
Cinebench – R11.53.66 points5934MHz

The overclocker’s test setup consisted of the following components:

  • Motherboard – ASUS P5E3 Premium on Intel X48 chipset (the main and in fact decisive advantage of this board is support for DDR3 RAM, which radically simplifies overclocking of chips on the LGA 775 platform)
  • RAM – ADATA Plus+ DDR3 2 x 2GB with delays CL6.0 7-6-18 6T
  • Video card – Zotac GeForce GT 220 DDR3 (GT216)
  • Storage – Samsung 850 EVO 256GB (MGX controller)
  • Power supply – Enermax Revolution87+ 650 watt

In addition, Eisbaer798 shared several photos of his workplace:
