A lot of time has passed since the days of the cryptocurrency fever, and now, the prices for video cards have practically settled down. Moreover, at the moment, the cost of many models is only slightly higher than the official price. However, according to the research of the DigiTimes resource, in 2020 we can expect another increase in prices for video cards AMD and NVIDIA.

DigiTimes is confident that the price of video memory will grow by 5% in the first quarter of 2020. According to rumors, the reason for the increase in cost is the limited supply of the corresponding chips, as the main customers are leaving the outdated GDDR5 memory standard for the more modern and faster GDDR6.

I must say that these statements are not devoid of meaning. For example, the same NVIDIA began to transfer even budget cards like the GeForce GTX 1650 to a new memory standard, and AMD, from the very beginning, released its budget video cards Radeon RX5500 and top-end RX5700 immediately with GDDR6 video memory. Accordingly, in this way, both companies provoked a deficit of the current standard.

Things can take a very bad turn after the release of the mid-budget video card Radeon RX 5600 XT from AMD, because it, like the RX 5500 with the RX 5700, will also carry GDDR6 video memory onboard.

However, the final conclusions can be made only after the release of the novelty, which is rumored to take place before the end of January 2020.
