AMD Phenom II 2-core, 3-core and 4-core chips are easy enough to unlock additional cores. In the case of the Phenom II X2, this is an opportunity to get either a 3-core or a 4-core processor, with the Phenom II X3 – a 4-core, and in the case of the X4, this is, although rather rare (the CPU must contain the prefix “T “. For example Phenom II X4 960T), but still a very real opportunity to get hold of a 6-core processor for free.

Serbian overclocker d0minat0r quite successfully took advantage of the above opportunity and unlocked the third core in his dual-core sample of the AMD Phenom II X2 570 BE chip. Then, with the help of liquid nitrogen, the enthusiast overclocked the resulting 3-core processor to a frequency of 6473 MHz, which ultimately secured himself first place in the HWBOT x265 Benchmark – 4k discipline, both in the ranks of the processor of the same name and in general, in the 3-core ranks:

At the same time, the voltage of the cores was 1.904 volts, and the frequency of the DDR3 RAM was at around 1327 MHz with delays of 6-6-6-18-33 1T.

The Serb test setup consisted of the following components:

  • Motherboard – GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P;
  • Video card – NVIDIA GeForce GT 610;
  • OS – Windows 7.
