AMD just unveiled the ultimate 64-core 128-thread processor for the TRX40 high-end platform, the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X, at CES 2020.
In addition to the incredible number of cores, of course, by the standards of the desktop segment, the new CPU will be able to boast a very impressive volume of the third level cache in the amount of 288MB!
The base frequency of the Threadripper 3990X will be equally 2900MHz, and at maximum auto-overclocking, it will be able to rise to the stunning 4300MHz! It is currently unknown how many of the 64 cores will be able to maintain such a high frequency. But even 2900 MHz for such a large number of cores/threads looks just overwhelming.
In addition, judging by the V-Ray tests carried out by AMD itself, their 64-core, 128-thread brainchild surpasses a couple of more expensive Xeon Platinum 8280 processors by up to 30%:
With such an ultimatum performance and very impressive characteristics, it is quite obvious that the power consumption of the chip will be very high. AMD had set the bar for the 3990X at 280 watts. Remember this if you decide to buy this CPU.
The Ryzen Threadripper 3990X processor will be available for purchase starting February 7, 2020, and will be priced at $3990.
