With the recent announcement of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X console, some additional details have surfaced about the successor of current AMD’s RDNA architecture – RDNA2.

It has long been known that the upcoming Microsoft console will be based on a custom SoC from AMD with support for real-time ray tracing. Moreover, the Redmond company has already provided a development environment for Raytracing through DirectX Raytracing, or DXR API. So the AMD RDNA2 architecture used in the custom SoC must support at least ray tracing based on the Microsoft API.

In addition, Microsoft said that its console will be able to boast support for VRS (Variable Rate Shading), which means that the next generation of RDNA architecture will also acquire VRS support.

In this simple way, the Redmond company can, with a little effort, provide a slightly smoother gameplay in 4k resolution.
